The Moscow metro with its splendid architectural design was opened in 1935. The first passengers were impressed with its bright interior with every station executed in each own style, featuring mosaics, colorful marble statues.Right from the start it was decided that the interior of every station should match its own location in the city or its name.Deserving of special mention are the "Mayakovskaya" metro station, decorated with in inlaid panels, the "Novoslobodskaya" with its fine stained - glass panels, the "Revolution Square" with sculptured figures of armed soldiers and sailors, the "Komsomolskaya" station with elements of antique and Buzantine mosaics, and many others.
